Language requirement: Fluent in English (written and spoken) and knowledge of Italian

If you’re a graduate with the talent and ambition to lead others, we’ll help you develop the expertise to become one of our Future Leaders.

Over two years, our Future Leaders graduate programme will challenge and support you to grow professionally and personally. You’ll have three rotations in three different R&D departments, such as project management and an external facing position with direct customer contact with patients and healthcare professionals. You will spend your first year in a core R&D role in Siena followed by two further rotations one of which will be international.

It all begins with a one-year rotation where you’ll get to work on core activities within the R&D Vaccines function. Through this hands-on role and your later placements, you’ll get an outstanding insight into our Vaccines R&D business. You’ll see science in action in our labs, be part of a vaccines development project team, discover our clinical activities, meet our customers or learn about the risk and compliance side of vaccine production.

What will you do?

  • Participate as a junior team member to projects and contribute to achievement of specific objectives
  • Contribute to development of technical documents within a specific program or group of related programs
  • Manage dedicated short term projects within the area of assignment
  • Support where applicable, the Senior Leaders in representing GSK vaccines in meetings with health authorities, scientific community, technical teams and international agencies as needed
  • Participate in R&D activities for a study or a number of studies within a specific program or group of related programs
  • Improve the network with the internal stakeholders (i.e. Global Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Evidence Generation, External R&D, etc.)
  • Be accountable for duties and tasks related to the Future Leader Program (i.e. trainings, meetings etc.)

You’ll need:

  • Medical Doctor degree (mandatory) Preferred specializations, master or PHD in the field of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, endocrinology, infectious diseases or epidemiology
  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English
  • 1 year work experience (internship, scholarship, apprenticeship are included) in a scientific institution, university or in pharmaceutical industry preferable
  • Strategic thinking skills and achievement oriented
  • Proactive and flexible
  • Good communication and cross-cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to work within an international and complex environment
  • Willing to travel

Our Future Leaders programme is designed to accelerate the development of graduates who don’t have significant previous professional work experience in the area to which they are applying. Of course, many graduates who join the programme have worked while studying or after graduation. If you’ve already developed substantial experience working in a professional role in your sector, while you would be able to apply for this programme, you may also want to look at direct entry roles in our businesses, as these may be the best way to build on your existing skills and expertise and develop a career at GSK.
